Who is a Subject Matter Expert?
A critical role within an organization that establishes and enforces guidelines for data collection, integration and processes. Data Steward could be defined per subject area for better control over the governance process and will be tasked with understanding the characteristics of data, find correlations, catalogue the data and apply semantic dimensions.
What are they responsible for?
The data steward is responsible for monitoring information assets and people against those policies. When deviations from policy are detected and not resolved through automated means, the steward is the focal point for issue resolution.
What questions do they seek answers for?
- How do I federate the taxonomies that determine an entity’s 360 degree view for my organization?
- How can I assign trust and weight to one source of information or to several attributes within a source to ensure data quality?
- How can I verify the outcomes of data matching programs to reduce false positives and confirm true positives?
